DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for The FOURTH UK-US MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY CONFERENCE which will be held from June 14-16 at Queen’s University in Belfast. The Fourth US-UK Medical Sociology conference is a meeting designed to bring together scholars with common interests in a small group-setting to network, debate, share ideas and forge new ground in medical sociology. Participation is limited to approximately 100 delegates. Previous conferences at Royal Holloway, Edinburgh and Boston have been very successful, so we suggest early registration for participants. This is a residential conference and thus all participants will stay at one of the conference accommodations options. All attendees take meals together and attend all plenary sessions and working groups. The registration fee is all-inclusive except for accommodation. University accommodation is available at a very reasonable cost. The Conference convenes on June 14 at 5:00 pm and continues through 3:00 pm on June 16. US and UK Ph.D. students can apply for funding bursaries for Registration and Accommodation (consult the website). Applications for Ph.D. student funding are due by February 15, 2012. Click here (or paste address in browser) to go to conference information and registration webpage: http://www.qub.ac.uk/sites/US-UKMedSoc2012/ Our thanks to the Medical Sociology Section of ASA, Foundation for Sociology of Health and Illness, and Queen's University Belfast School of Sociology, Social Work and Social Policy for their support of the conference. Written and directed by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Avengers Assemble) the film follows the renegade crew of the spaceship Serenity led by Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion). Agreeing to take on two mysterious refugees, the crew find themselves thrown into an epic battle with the brutal totalitarian Alliance. Bursting with Whedon's trademark wit and inventive action sequences, Serenity is a sci-fi phenomenon.

DESCRIPTION:Legendary punk-rockers The Damned will perform at Belfast's Mandela Hall in May of this year to mark 35 years since the release of their debut album Damned, Damned, Damned. Released on the 18th of February 1977, the record is often referred to as the first British punk album and featured the singles 'New Rose' and 'Neat, Neat, Neat' as well as a cover of The Stooges classic 'I Feel Alright'. The record is routinely featured on lists of the greatest punk albums of all time with MOJO magazine placing it as high as #3 on their countdown in 2003. Having previously played with The Clash and Sex Pistols, 1977 also saw the band become the first U.K punk act to tour the U.S.A, release their second album Music For Pleasure and support T-Rex on their final tour. A host of line-up changes over the years have not slowed the band's momentum and, with original members Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible still on board, their last studio album was the tenth they have released. Last year saw the band play well-received shows at Fun Fun Fun Fest, Whitby Gothic Festival and even a special Halloween gig at Disneyland.
